Dmytro Sukhovienko was born in Ukraine in 1972. He began playing the piano when he was seven years old, attending the Kyiv Lysenko Special Music School for eleven years with Sofia Dobrzhanska. He studied for five intensive years at the National Kyiv Conservatoire with Vsevolod Vorobyov who transmitted his profound passion for pure interpretation in the tradition of Felix Blumenfeld, whose famous attendees included, among others, Vladimir Horowitz.
In 1995 Sir Yehudy Menuhin gave Dmytro a scholarship to study chamber music at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad. Sukhovienko continued to study as a soloist with Paul Coker at the Neuchâtel Conservatoire for three years, winning the Prix de Virtuosité in 1999.
At the same time he attended master-classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Barry Douglas, Dmitri Bashkirov, Philippe Entremont, Abdel Rahman El Bacha and also took private lessons with a former pupil of Nikita Magaloff, Alexei Golovine.
In 1997 he won First Prize at the International Music competition in San Bartolomeo in Italy.
Le Figaro wrote Dmytro Sukhovienko is a name to remember and Philippe Entremont said he was the most promising talent he has heard in the last 30 years.
He has featured at the Fête de la Musique Geneva, Festival International de Musique Universitaire Belfort, Musique en été Geneva, Les Classiques de Villars, Santo Domingo Music Festival, Chopin Festival in Geneva, Valletta Baroque Festival and the Madeira Piano Fest.
